My Guitar Journey

Hello everyone this is Hatim. As you know that I am amateur Guitarist so whatever you see I play is all self learnt and that's why you may find some mistakes in me. Anyways  if you wanna know How I learnt Guitar you may find this post very interesting. In this post, I shared how I learnt Guitar. Well I don't know about others but that's how I learnt Guitar. Hope you will Enjoy Reading this.

How I learnt Guitar

At starting I learnt about Alphabetical Notes (e.g. A,B,C,D,E,F,G). After learning it properly I learnt C-Major scale and started playing C-scale notes in 1st three frets. I played those Songs which were in C-scale (tabs only). I learnt how to recognize song's scale and how to play vocal solo (for example you can see this Video)
Tu Hi Haqeeqat Guitar Solo

I started posting my videos on YouTube. A lot of people pointed out my mistakes. I corrected those mistakes and improved my self but still my solo cover was very simple and sounds a lot like beginner. Later I Joined a Guitar Class for around  2-3  months. There they taught me String's name and all the basic things which I already knew. My class Fee was 700 rs /month and it was 8 sessions per a month. Since my Parents were against my guitar class so I had to arrange fee myself. I was a college student, I couldn't manage it and left my Guitar classes. But I utilized Those lessons taught me in class. I used to Observe my sir when he played Guitar and learnt few techniques like Hammering and Sliding. I even learned some of the Strumming patterns.
After learning those things I watched Few more videos on YouTube and learnt few more things. I started implementing those techniques in my video and yeah it was working, Now my videos were sounding Like Pro. I started watching Rajdeep das Video  on YouTube Trust me He is one of  the best guitarist I've seen . Currently(Jan 2015) I am Following Likhith Khurba On YouTube.
Anyways after Learning those techniques I started playing Melodies of song and Ringtone Like  Airtel tone ,IPL tone, Nokia tone. (Watch This Video)

IPL Tone

Later I started learning Basic Open Chords. I learnt these chords at starting

  • A, Am, A7
  • C
  • D, Dm, D7
  • E, Em, E7
  • F
  • G
After Learning these Chords I started playing songs which uses these Simple chords but I never followed strumming pattern. I used to play any pattern that fits the song. After that I met one of my friend who is guitarist too. Actually it was him whose guitar I first saw and touched. It was awesome experience. I took His Guitar and strummed randomly...yeah that was one of the best thing happened in my life. Anyways he visited his granny and she was our neighbor. He taught me some guitar chord theory and that time I learnt something useful. He told me If u play F major chord and shift your hand one fret then it becomes F# major chord, shift it again by one fret and it will become G major chord. And same happens with Am chord and E major chord. These tips were very useful for me.Using this theory I learned Some more Chords.

  • A#,A#m
  • B, Bm
  • Cm
  • C#, C#m
  • Fm
  • F#m
  • Gm,G#m
  • and more
After learning these chords I was able to play most of the songs. But I Couldn't play Barre (Bar) chords nicely so I stick to  open chords only. Later I could play bar chords but loved open chords and I mostly play Open chords only.
My problem In scale was I couldn't remember notes of every scale so I started mugging it up but it wasn't helping. Later I found solution, I was just exercising my vocal scale. It was simple SA, RE, GA, MA, PA, DHA, NI, SA in C-scale. Here is  example:

  • C = SA
  • D = RE
  • E = GA
  • F = MA
  • G = PA
  • A = DHA
  • B = NI
  • C = SA
Using this I could play any scale at any fret without remembering its notes. Currently I am practicing Advance Chords and fingers.

P.S: I may edit this post to let you know about my progress. Thank you for reading this
